광무제 시대 배경의 한국 고소설 <옥환기봉>의 서사적 의의 －중국 TV사극 <수려강산지장가행>과의 비교를 중심으로
본고는 후한 광무제 시대를 배경으로 한 18세기 한국 고소설 <옥환기봉>과 21세기 중국에 서 제작된 TV사극 <수려강산지장가행>의 서사와 인물형상을 비교함으로써 궁극적으로 <옥 환기봉>을 비롯한 조선 후기 중국 역사를 수용한 장편소설 작품들의 사회·문화적 의의를 살 피고자 한 것이다. 서사 비교 결과, 두 작품은 세계관과 서사구성 그리고 주제적 측면에서 적지 않은 차이를 보이고 있었으나, 후한서의 기록을 바탕으로 광무제의 한나라 부흥 여정 을 서사화하는 가운데 황후 폐립의 과정에서 발생한 광무제와 두 황후의 갈등을 주요하게 다 루고 있다는 점에서 높은 서사적 유사성을 보였다. 한편, 광무제의 두 황후인 음려화와 곽성 통은 <옥환기봉>에서는 각각 ‘색·덕을 겸비한 요조숙녀’와 ‘자긍심 강한 조강지처’로 형상화 된 데 비해, <장가행>에서는 ‘한나라 재건의 주역’과 ‘정략결혼의 피해자’로 그려지고 있었다. 그러나 이러한 차이에도 불구하고 주인공인 음려화에게는 창작 당대의 조선과 현대 중국사회 에서 선호되는 여성상이 강하게 투영되어 있었으며, 적대자인 곽성통에게는 대중의 공감을 얻을 수 있는 입체적인 성격이 부여되었다는 점에서 공통점을 발견할 수 있었다. 두 작품의 유사성을 바탕으로 본고는 <옥환기봉>을 비롯한 조선 후기에 창작된 중국 역사를 수용한 장 편소설 작품들의 사회·문화적 의의를 현대사회의 사극 열풍의 원인으로 논의된 ‘대중화 코 드’와 ‘거대 담론 코드’를 중심으로 살피는 가운데 본 작품이 이룩한 문학적 성취를 강조하는 것으로 논의를 갈무리했다.
The epic significance of “Okhwan Gi-bong,” a Korean old novel set in the Gwangmuje Period －Based on the comparison with the Chinese TV historical drama “秀麗江山之長歌行(Singing All Along)”
This paper compares characters and the narrative of the 18th century Korean old novel “Okhwankibong” set in the era of Emperor Guangwu and the 21st century Chinese TV historical drama “秀麗江山之長歌行(Singing All Along)”. And it was intended to examine the social and cultural significance of “Okhwankibon ”. As a result of the narrative comparison, the two works differed in terms of worldview, narrative composition, and subject. However, based on the records of “Houhansuh,” the two works showed high narrative similarity in that the conflict between Emperor Guangwu and the Empress during the deposition of the Empress was composed of the artist's imagination. On the other hand, despite the difference between the two works, the main character, Um Yeo-hwa, had a strong projection of her preferred female image during her time of creation, and in Kwak Seong-tong 's case, she was recreated as a three-dimensional figure to win public sympathy from the public. Based on the similarity between these two works, this paper concluded the discussion by considering the social and cultural significance of “Okhwan kibong” and emphasizing the literary achievement of the original work, focusing on the current historical drama.
