상호문화 감수성 계발을 위한 문학 비교 연구 - 김숨의 『한 명』과 옌거링(嚴歌苓)의 『진링의 13소녀(金陵十三釵)』를 중심으로－
복잡한 상호의존성과 다면성을 국적이나 민족, 지리 공간에 따라 분절적으로 이해하는 데 그친다면, 전 인류가 함께 더불어 살아가기 위한 비전을 충족시키기 어렵다. 이러한 의식의 발로로 상호문화교육에 대한 관심이 증폭되어 왔다. 철학으로, 윤리로, 교육 원리로 자리 잡 아 온 상호문화주의의 요체는 차이의 확인과 인정에 있기보다 공통성의 발견과 확립에 있는데, 문화가 표출되는 다양한 삶의 형식에만 천착한다면, 상호문화주의의 진의를 실천하는 교 육이 요원해진다. 진정한 의미에서 상호문화교육은 상호문화 감수성 강화에 있다. 본 연구는 문학 비교가 상호문화 감수성 계발을 위한 교육적 실천일 수 있다는 점에 착안하였다. 문학이 라는 영역을 거대한 열린 공간으로 보고 더 큰 문화 세계 마련에 방점을 찍는다면, 문학 비교 는 상호문화 철학의 대의와 조응될 수 있다. 그런고로, 본 연구는 역사적 주제에 기반하여 상호문화적 교감과 이해의 폭을 넓히는 문학 교육을 염두에 두고 김숨의 『한 명』과 옌거링의 『진링의 13소녀』를 분석함으로써, 상호문화 감수성 계발에 기여할 가치가 두 작품에 내재해 있음을 밝히고자 하였다. 이 두 작품은 기억과 증언, 대리발화를 통해 역사를 통시적으로 잇 고 공간적으로 종합한다. 그 가치를 올바로 파악한다면, 국적과 민족을 초월하여 공통의 비전 을 마련하는 데 참여할 하나 됨의 정서 생성이 기대될 수 있을 것이다. 이를 본 연구에서는 ‘겹침의 미학이자 윤리’로 명명하였다. 다른 시간과 장소에 사는 모두가 상호연결되어 있으며 중첩되기도 하다는 각성에 이를 길에 붙이는 이름으로서 ‘겹침’은, 좁게는 한국과 중국, 넓게 는 고난의 과거를 거친 인류 전체를 상호문화적 감수성의 주체로 나아가게 하는 데 일조할 것이다.
A Study of Literary Comparison for Intercultural Sensitivity Development －One Left by Kim Soom and The Flowers of War by Geling Yan
Given the complex interdependence and multifaceted realities of nationality, ethnicity, and the geographic space that separates peoples, fully realizing a world where all humankind can live together would be a difficult task. Intercultural education has emerged as the result of our awareness of this difficulty. Interculturalism is an established philosophy, ethics, and educational principle, and at its core is the task of discovering commonality rather than repeatedly finding and pointing out differences. However, when all aspects of life in which culture is expressed are scrutinized, interculturalism as an educational practice will still have a long way to go. The intercultural understanding depends on strengthening intercultural sensitivity. This study, delving into the possibility of literary comparison for developing intercultural sensitivity, uses One Left by Kim Soom and The Flowers of War by Geling Yan in the context of integrated reading, and focuses on the creation of a larger cultural world for all humanity, rather than just for one group of people. The two novels connect history diachronically and connect spaces through memory, testimony, and surrogate speech. By fully understanding the value inherent in both works, students can gain a sense of common values that transcends nationality or ethnicity, and feel connected to one another. In this study, this is called the ethics of ‘Overlapping’. ‘Overlapping’ is a term that encompasses the path of enlightenment, allowing those living in different times and places to be interconnected and even interact. In the narrow sense, it forms connections between Korea and China, and in the wider sense between a troubled past and the interculturally sensitive humanity of the future.
